Discipleship

I have seen a stirring in people's hearts. They are eager for discipleship (which I hope will one day lead to more missional outreach). We are being more intentional with our chldren's church on Sunday mornings. We are going to have children age 4-12 in age appropriate children's church groups. Then during confirmation they will transition back into the full service. The children will still participate in the liturgy and music, but will go to their sessions during the sermon. We are very excited. We are also starting a small group ministry, where we will break into "bands." We are going to use The Story of God: Exploring the Biblical Narrative as a ice-breaker, and to build cohesion and relationship in our group. Then we will form a covenant/accountability group. The goal is spiritual formation that leads us individually and as a group to discern callings and gifts, to grow in the means of grace, and to have accountability. I would like us to covenant for 1-2 years. From there I hope that some will feel led to create new small groups of their own, and that others will seek to lead in other areas of ministry such as youth ministry and missional-discipleship. I really see the Spirit moving. Excited to be part of what God is doing here! Would love any feedback or advice.

This sounds wonderful -- I love how you have thought of intentional faith formation for multiple generations. Curious -- what type of content/structure will you be using for your covenant groups and for children's church?
