Our area of Texas has been inundated with heavy rain the last five days. One area resident was killed because of high water when her car was swept off the road on Thanksgiving night. Crowley was originally part of a dairy farming community but is now a suburb of Fort Worth; many of the people in our area depend on septic tanks for their home sewage. With close to eight inches of rain in the last few days, the septic tanks are not functioning properly for area residents.
Several years ago, when we added a new Welcome Center to the church, one of the prime considerations was to include showers. We thought they could be used by groups who visit the area and stay with us as when the youth go on the summer CTCYM trips. What the rain has caused is that the building's showers are now actually being used by area residents who are not able to shower at home because of filled septic tanks.
This is a ministry that the congregation did not plan intentionally but what an opportunity it is. Our church lines are part of the City of Crowley's sewer system, so drainage in not a problem, Who would have thought that Advent would be a season of Hope for a hot shower?
