Vacation Bible School

This is from our Children's Ministry Director's report.

I am still on cloud nine after an amazing Vacation Bible School experience last month.  We packed up our entire program, all the way down to the tables and chairs, and spent three nights at the Fox Run Apartments on Sam Houston Drive.  We hosted 50+ kids, a different group each night, and were blessed with 25 volunteers.

Together, we shared God's word with them through skits, music and reflection time.  We fed them a hot meal, crafted, played games, and fed them again before we sent them home.  Most importantly, we strengthened relationships with the campers that were here at Pine Cove Camp in the City and built many new ones.

Only a handful of the kids were signed in by a family member.  They walked over from their apartment, the apartments next door, or from the neighborhood behind Fox Run.  One little girl who was five years-old, Lilliana, rode her bike over each day.  For all of you over-protective parents out there like myself, let that sink in for a minute.

We answered God's call to go to them so that they could come to Him.

Since April, the Children's Ministries of First United Methodist Church has shared God's word with over 400 children through Methodist Day School, Pine Cove Camp in the City, Vacation Bible School and Basic Training Camp.

We currently have 30 elementary aged children on our church rolls.

"I have no greater joy than to know that my children are walking in the truth." 3 John 1:4

Children need God.  All children.  It has become

abundantly clear to me over the past couple of years that WE have to GO to the children.  We must answer the call to go to them so that they can come to Him.

Please join me in praying for our entire church family as we discern ways to actively engage with God's children.

In Him,Brooke Mercer,

Director of Children's Ministries
