Outreach Committee: Helping the Poor

5/13/2013 views(286)

Our Outreach Committee at Adaton UMC is very active. A regular ministry involves providing the food and service for a local ministry called "Casserole Kitchen." This is a ministry that provides home cooked meals to people who are struggling to provide basic necessities for themselves.

At our most recent assignment, members of the church/committee got a chance to get to know a young couple who were for all practical purposes homeless. They had no car and no place to stay with job opportunities in town but needing a place to stay, etc. We were able to put this couple up in a local motel through church mission funds as well as additional gifts from individuals. We just recently were able to assist them in getting into an apartment and help pay some rent and an electric deposit.

God's presence is seen in bringing our church and this desperate couple together "for such a time as this" and in the generous and compassionate response of God's people in practical care and sharing.

FUMC-Dublin, Texas had a couple asking for fuel in order for them to go to Harris Methodist Hospital in Ft. Worth for an Angiogram, so we gave them $55.00 worth of fuel because they were driving a Dodge pickup which doesn't get that good of a gas mileage. We also had 5 families come in this past week for food from our food pantry.
