Scopus Back to School Picnic a HUGE SUCCESS!

On August 5th Scopus hosted a back to school picnic on the grounds of the church with free food, music, free school supplies given away and prizes given away donated by local vendors such as Buchheits, DQ, Taco Bell, McDonalds, etc.  The community was invited to attend and we had approx. 100 adults and children come from the surrounding community.  This was the largest event held at Scopus in the past 5 years or more.  As pastor I spent my time talking and listening to the community and there is a hunger for more unity between the church and the community.  Many wonderful comments were made and requests for when the next event would be.  For the congregation this was a huge boost to their vitality as a church.  Prior to this they had become disheartened and complacent.  As pastor I was so proud of how the once disenchanted church came together and every member participated in some way according to their abilities.  The excitement and fire that I saw in them this past Sunday was amazing!  The Holy Spirit was very present at our event.  There was such a sweet spirit about the whole event.  The congregation is currently planning for a community dinner on Granparents Day in Sept and a community Chili Supper for Oct.  To God be the Glory!!!
