Where there is a will there is a way!

PERSEVERANCE - North Central - Indiana - South (IN)

Perseverance Chapel UMC in southern Harrison County is a very small rural church (membership 36; average attendance 16) with a big focus on missions. With the motto of "God is good all the time, all the time God is good; and we shall be His witnesses, Perseverance Chapel wants others to know that size really does not matter; God does! With God, faith, good works, and the church's witness...mission work gets done!

Perseverance's recent mission trip to Appalachia (Red Bird Mission, Red Bird Missionary Conference, Henderson Settlement) on September 27 & 28, 2018 delivered over 70 warm fleece handmade blankets, food, staples, clothing, books, school supplies, and many other necessities. This recent mission endeavor is only one example of missions that are completed on an annual basis. Others include 4:34 Ministries in Corydon, South Harrison Community Schools,  Salvation Army and Community Services in Harrison County, Open Doors Youth Services in Floyd County, Ronald McDonald House in Louisville, KY, Seed Ministry in Ghana, Africa, CMF International/Shannon Tucker in Kenya, Crow Creek Indian Reservation in Ft Thompson, SD, and many other opportunities near and far.

Perseverance has a group of ladies that call themselves "The Dixie Belles" and they have made hundreds of prayer blankets for distribution. This year alone they have made over 100 blankets. They visit area nursing homes and shut ins where they share warm prayer blankets along with actual prayer! The prayer blankets along with food, school supplies, and other necessities go hand in hand and are distributed as needed. Not only does the small church travel and deliver and visit those less fortunate, sometimes they even physically work by cleaning pantries, painting, scrubbing floors, wrapping gifts, preparing meals, etc.

With an average attendance of 16, most would believe the old phrase of "we can't" but not at Perseverance Chapel! "Where there is a will there is a way"! Each time this small rural (and elderly) congregation begins a mission project, God provides. And because of this mission work, others have joined in and participated in the Perseverance opportunities!  As the mission work continues at Perseverance, so does the number of opportunities and the number of others who ask to participate. The mission work keeps growing each and every year!

Sunday morning worship with Pastor Scott Blessitt is at 9:30 a.m.; Sunday School is at 10:30. Bible Study classes and "Dixie Belles" mission work opportunities are scheduled weekly. Perseverance welcomes others to visit and share in God's ministry and mission work. And always remember that you don't have to be LARGE to accomplish GREAT things...where there is a will there is a way...God will see you through!
