Hosting the Hangout

Darrell and Kay Grubbs lead Calvary Chapel, which meets int he middle school, and Kay has started a community group called "the Hangout" that had been meeting in an old hardware store down the street from the church. They lost their lease on that property and were looking at closing, despite regularly drawing 15-20 kids and teens to a safe space to "hang out." Working with the congregations leadership, we have quickly gone from a "what if" to a reality of opening our Fellowship Hall so the Hangout can continue meeting. We worked with the Hangout to implement Safe Gatherings among their volunteers, negotiated a monthly donation taht offsets some of our paper and utility cost while lowering their monthly payment below what the rent had been and are recruiting volunteers.  We are also looking to create some game nights and block parties to further extend the welcome into the community.
