The Hanging of the Greens at Lithonia First United Methodist Church

Each year on the First Sunday of Advent, the Chancel Choir of Lithonia First United Methodist Church presents our Hanging of the Greens service, based on the work entittled "The Colors of Christmas" by Marty Parks. This celebration is a time honored tradition at Lithonia First, eagerly anticipated by the church family and the surrounding community alike.  The music and narration explore the history of the reds, greens and lights (the colors!) we use to adorn our homes and sanctuaries at Christmas. The narrator invites those in attendance to "Let the celebration begin!"  At intervals during the sevice, worshipers rise to paticipate in decorating our beautiful historic sanctuary.  By the time the choir sings the Finale, the worship space has been transformed, preparing and blessing those in attendance as no other service can. The true meaning and spirit of Chrismas bloom in every joyful heart!
