Holy Week Services

We had two very powerful services this week for Holy Thursday and Good Friday. On Holy Thursday, we invited people into the Sanctuary for solitary, guided meditation (our organist played softly during the hour), then invited them to go in groups to have an "Upper Room Experience" in an intimate setting (12 or fewer) for Holy Communion. I am happy to share the guided meditation document, if that would be helpful to others.

On Good Friday, we typically have a Choir Concert. However, this year, we offered a Tenebrae Service. Using laity and staff as readers and the service from the BOW, we had a solo flute play a verse of one of the passion hymns in the UMH as the reader extinguished one candle for each reading. The candles were spread throughout the chancel area, not just on the altar. Many who attended shared that this was one of the most moving services they had ever experienced.

In addition to in-house advertising, outdoor banner and Facebook event invitations, we also advertised both of these services through Eventbrite. We had guests on both nights who specifically found these services through Eventbrite.
