Our church experienced a profound tragedy this week with the death of Ashley Morrison who had a beautiful voice and had sung in our choirs and helped with children's activities and her fiance Jeremy Bowen who was a choir director at the Granbury high school and had played many times at our church. Both these young people were well loved. The families decided to have their funerals together and Acton UMC was chosen because of its size and ability to host such a gathering. Our staff and congregation came together to organize and celebrate their lives, together with two other churches and several choirs from different schools. We hosted over 1900 people between our sanctuary, our Community Life Center, Our Youth Bulding, the neighboring churches parking lots and the Baptist church across the street simulcasting the service. We were able to honor these two young people with music and a community spirit that was remarkable. God's presence was felt, even in the sadness of th occasion.
After the funeral on Friday, the church pulled together to prepare for their annual Lord's Acre Celebration on Saturday. It was an amazing effort by many people and a wonder to be a part of. Then on Sunday, we had baptism Sunday and had three young members join with a Profession of Faith and Baptism. God is at work in this church!
