Smoke-Off!

Ww had a wonderful time on Sunday afternoon as The Garden Community Church (GCC) and Union Chapel Indy (UCI) joined forces for a "Smoke-Off!" to raise money for Afghan Refugee relief through UMCOR.   Members of both congregations signed up to bring smoked meats and desserts.  In true United Methodist fashion, over-achievement resulted in 3 long banquet tables crowded with smoked meats and 6 even more crowded with desserts.  An added bonus of "no one mentioned side dishes, so I'd better bring one" resulted in a very full menu!  Each item had a Voting Bag, and folks voted for their favorite meat and dessert with cash or checks - the highest grossing item in each field to be honored with bragging rights and a wonderful hand-made trophy.  Over 100 congregational and community members descended upon the offerings!  A great time, and a full stomach, was had by all.  The money is being counted, with totals and winners to be announced during the church services next week.
