New Haven - South Central - Missouri - Northeast District (MO)

We've had a monthly sewing ministries activity going with the New Haven Care Center for about 8 years. It started when we had one of our members in care there, and thought starting an activity that she could be included in would be a nice way to have some fellowship with she and others. The items we sewed were pillows for a mission trip that the Baptist church in our community was a part of. We'd sew, the residents would turn them out, a resident would press, and others would stuff. One of our members (who leads the activity) also started making walker bags, and wheel chair bags and the residents would turn, press those. Recently,  a newer congregant, who is friends with our activities leader, started a craft day. They had to move to a different room (they were in the residential apartment area) and the move allowed many more residents of the Care Center to participate. This last week they had 18 in attendance!! Many more people were able to participate, and share in the fellowship time. The ladies are so excited in the participation of the patrons, and the activities director is thankful that this allowed her to do a little "extra" things she needed to address. We are a small congregation, but the enthusiasm these ladies have for engaging the residents is wonderful. There are other women outside of our church in the community that are coming to participate and help with the residents. We are blessed by the leadership and enthusiasm these women share with the residents, and the relationships they are building.
