Local Outreach in the Ione Community

On the 3rd Thurs.  of the month we provide the entree and dessert for a potluck dinner at  a low cost apartment complex in our town.  These individuals not only have low incomes, but many are physically and developmentally challanged.   We served 18 this Thurs. and enjoyed sharing God's blessings.

On the 3rd. Sat. of the month, again in conjuction with the Interfaith Food Bank, we distributed  food stables and produce to families in our community.  This has become a vital outreach  as we served 54 families Sat.

We also served Senior Meals on Thurs.  This is held every Thurs. at our church.  While the meals are provided by Common Ground, we serve the meals and provide a place for seniors in our town to share together.

I contacted the manager of the apartments and ask if this would be something that our church could do. They had been having potlucks, but not well attended. There is a community room available that has small kitchen facilities. I contact one of the resident's caretaker, and she posts a sign up sheet with what I plan on cooking. We did set a definite day which is the 3rd Thurs. of the month. The main course is cooked at the church and transported to the facility. The guests bring their own plates and silver, so there is not much clean up. It works great and we have made several new friends and know that they look forward to having us.

At the apartment complex, how did you set up doing the meals? Is there a community room that is available for your church to use? How do the residence know about the meal. I think this is a great idea. Bless your congregation for its ministry.
