On March 2nd my Mom passed away after a markedly brief (3 months) struggle with colon cancer that came out of nowhere. When her obit ran in the Dalton newspaper an old friend called and told me another of our friend's father had experienced a stroke and they didn't know if he was saved.
sunday night (March 15th) I went to this man's house -- he's a member of a Mehthodist church who hasn't attended in years -- and explained the gospel to him and long story short, he prayed to receive Christ at 93 years old! He had walked into the living room using a cane, but after we prayed he stood up from the couch without it and said, "Now I know for sure!" and walked across the room to hug his 87-year- old wife.
His son and his son's wife were crying, my friend was crying, and we were rejoicing. I have since taken him some large print copies of Our Daily Bread devotional. He has fully recovered from his physical setback.
In a spearate instance, earlier that Sunday morning a senior lady at my larger church, Salem, asked me to go see her brother who was in a nursing home. He no longer wanted to live and was going to have everything keeping him alive removed on Monday so he could die. Although he is a member at Salem, he has attended maybe twice in the almost 10 years I've been there, and she wasn't sure he was saved.
Early Monday morning (March 16th) I spent almost an hour with David, and we discussed a lot of things including his family"s dynamics and his need to know Christ. Long story short, he prayed to receive Jesus at age 77. His sister called me yesterday morning to tell me he passed away Wednesday.
This week Teresa and I are scheduled to go see an 86-year-old woman who doesn't think you can be sure you're saved. We'll see what the Holy Spirit says!
