foundation of their ability to continue

This church has been marauded over the last 7-8 years with ministry leadership that plundered this congregation. The last three pastors destroyed any records of their time, created a building program that has financially bound this church for the next decade! A previous pastor over-ruled the congregation in hiring an architect that was not of this community and charged the church an outrageous amount for his professional fees. Of courrrse, the architect was a friend of the pastor and the design, based on my experience with design and building, was double or triple the cost or need of this small congregation, with a continuing debt load that is enormous for an aged congregation such as this,

Secondly, when I arrived in May, their utility cost were exceeding $2000/month (electricaal only), which was the result of the building not being built to any type of energy stadards. After closer inpection of the faclity, I found the new building was not only enormous in size, but no thought was gven by the architect to requre insulation above the ceilings or in the exterior walls to conserve energy.

As a result, I have implemented a list of energy conservation measures for this church  which has lowered the energy from $2,000/month to $400/month. We have also placed two propertes, owned by the church, up for sale, properties not utilized or presently useful,in order to defray and lower the debt load and  continue thiis  mnistry,

Defective and unwise pastoral leadersdhip could be diverted by District and Conference  officials  i we would implement constraint/Conferene legislatioins  that limited  the power of Pastors  in making decisions overruling the needs or wants of the congregation.

With  God's  help,I hope to lead them back into a more comfortable future and eliminate the cloudy days of their past with God's help and better  pastoral lleadership.

This church has gained a new vision and now have imlemented a program to reduce the debt load and energy ccosts to enable a more full ministry to their communiy.

How sad that your congregation has endured this. How are you helping them to deal with their grief and anger?
