Painful Moments and Hard Truths May Be Used by God For God's Work

PPR, after voting to receive a new pastor in the 2016 appointment process, then hearing my review of what I understood to be the areas that needed to change to prepare for a new pastor in a more healthy context, my then futile plans and hopes to insist upon working together to decide the mission of the church in the community, and expression of my frustration of not having been able to do so in an effective manner during the two past years, the PPR decided to reverse their vote and invite me back because they want to do just that. Am I sure God wants this for the church, or if it will be Gods will for me? Not yet. However, their willingness to look at who they have been in relation to past pastors, to reaccess what might be best for the church, consider working together to decide a mission within the community outside the church walls is huge for this leadership, no matter how my discernment process turns out about accepting the invitation or not. Definitely God's stirring in moving them one step nearer to moving beyond the church walls.

Thank you for your openness in sharing some of the challenges of leadership -- both lay and clergy -- in the local church, and for this example of looking to challenges as a place where we can discern God's leading us. I pray that this will be a fruitful time of discernment for all of you.
