Community Outreach

The Adult Sunday School class provided mony for a homeless Veteran and his spouse after they were evicted from their home.  They had no transportation and very little money.  The veteran refused to leave his wife or turn her over to state custody as she is unable to care for herself due to many medical conditions because his faith led him to conclude he was married to her and the vows he took in church were sacred.  Along with Abingdon UMC, we provided money for their stay at a hotel and transported them to the airport so they could relocate to Califronia after his family provided airplne tickets. 

The UMW received an interactive presentation on human trafficking from Ms. Prue Oxendine, President of Abingdon Dist. UMW this week.  It allowed UMW memebers to discuss this topic and deveolp ways they can become in this mission both at the local level and in support of national efforts.
