This week one of our young adult college students began a new adventure in ministry expanding a lincoln organazation that he had been involved with for many years. Brendon and his long time friend and college room mate Dylan are working to expand the "Skate for Change" organazation into Omaha from Lincoln. They have been working with the Lincoln chapter to set up donation sites and volunteers in the Omaha area. This Saturday the boys had their frist meeting and set off for the mission area. Although a little let down that they were the only 2, they skate boarded over 3 miles and handed out 15 personal hygiene kits to the homeless along the way. The kits contain a bottle of water, protein bar, socks and various personal hygiene items. It warms our hearts that although Brendon is away from us, he is taking all of God's teachings he has learned and is applying them in ways that call to his own heart. Isn't that how the world becomes a better place? And also showing just how important even our small membership churches can be in doing just that, changing the world to make desciples of Jesus Christ. The Skate for Change organazation is not a christian based organasation but does focus on at risk youth that enjoy skate boarding but do not want to fit into the negative stereotype often given to skate boarders. They offer the kids a purpose (helping the homeless) while assisting them in various needs such as tutoring, meals, etc. as well as offering a safe place to gather and have a point of contact for resources that may be needed. Continued prayers for these boys and all of the young people striving to make the world more like the world that God had invisioned for us.
