Ice Cream Social Gospel Summer Series

We're located in a very conservative community, but the folks that attend this church ask for and appreciate messages that are relevant to today. They also asked specifically for a way to gather for fellowship after worship that included not full meals but some type of food. We came up with  a way to give them both by creating a series called "Ice Cream Social Gospel." Each week's worship focuses on a social injustice/resolution issue, tieing it to relevant scriptures, especially in the four gospels. The ice cream flavor of the week ties into the week's message theme (ex: July 3 message - We Hold These Truths..., Ice Cream - Red, White & Blue Banana Splits; July 10 message - Living Among the Brambles, Ice Cream - Blackberry). To help the ice cream social feel like a fellowship meal, the ice cream is homemade. We'll continue this series through the last Sunday in August (the hottest months here in our area).
