Five confirmation students and five adult mentors traveled to Detroit this weekend to spend a day working for Cass Comm. Social Services. We did outdoor work preparing for the community garden and worked on rehabbing an old building as a kind of half way house for women. We also took a tour of Detroit, saw a video on the history of Detroit and attended the worship servie at Central UMC. The youth made some new African American friends and were exposed to life in Detroit and to the work of the UMC in the inner city. Rev. Faith Fowler was a gracious, attentive hostess, despite her many repsonsibilities. We capped off the weekend by attending a game at Comerica Park. The trip was well worth the planning and fund raising.
