Stepping up when asked

Early in the week I learned that a significant number of gifts that had been promised to "Angel Tree Ministries: (providing gifts to children of incarecerated parents within our local communities-we currently have 2 prisons within a 50 mile radius) would not happen due to the death of one churches pastor, causing a last minute return of names/unfilled gifts. I reached out to the congregation of Raymondville UMC asking for their assistance in fulfilling some of these open spaces. I purchased the first $20 gist card as a show of leadership; the mostly senior congregation, small, amnd many on a fixed budget with health issues, stepped up and provided a total of 30 additional gift cards to help fuill the 140 returned names. Gift cards were requested as there was little tiome to purchase gifts and deliver them. I am so proud of this small congregation and kinow that God smiles on them and blesses them in ways we can only imagine.
