Small church------ Strong FAITH

Independence UMC is a small rural church; however, we strive to set goals and "Let God Lead". We are a small congregation who continues to think big.  We know that God will bless us in our efforts to witness.  The following things have happened recently in our church. We do not stop to say.. " There are just not enough of us to do these things!".... We just say " With God's help let's make it happen!"........

1. A small church choir composed of 16 people  has prepared an Easter Contata of music. We sing for the Lord and enjoy every moment. The choir members range from ages 13- 82, but we enjoy singing.

2.  The UMM group has reorganized at Independence. At the time there are only 5 me; however,  they plan to serve. One idea was to grow garden items to be given to others who need fresh vegetables in the community.

3. We have regrouped our Sunday School classes. As time passes this must be done to better meet the church's needs. We are a small congregation with 5  Sunday School classes: Pre-school- First grade; Elementary; Teens; Young adult; Adult.  These changes meant some teachers being willing to change age groups, but with lots of prayer and with God's guidance it has been successful! 

4.  We have a small number of youth at Independence UMC; however,  we decided to go out and bring others into the group. We now have an active YOUTH GROUP  with members from all three of the churches on our charge---- Coles, Independence, and Temple Hill and we have added youth from Dexter- Hardin UMC. Dexter-Hardin ( Paducah District) has a van and a large recreation hall and few youth and our three churches had more youth. The youth leaders from  Independence and Dexter- Hardin feel that " GOD brought us together for a purpose" and it is working. We meet weekly ( and rotate between Independence and Dexter- Hardin monthly. )  We do Bible studies as a group and share in Christian fellowship. We are planning to attend  PUMP and a Summer Church  Retreat for Youth. Some hope to attend Icthus. GOD IS GOOD!
