Changing the World One Drop At A Time: Celebrating God's Gift Of Water

Our congregation agreed to try something new. Rather than hold a Strawberry Festival to raise money for the church we held a Water Festival to raise funds to provide in-home water purifications systems in the Appalachia region and to provide clean save water for Old Mutare Hospital in Zimbabwe (an UMCOR project) We did not charge for the food, movie, games or crafts. Celebrants could donate what they wished. We had a guest speaker who had been to Zimbabwe describe the need for that project. The movie Hidden Rivers was about water conservation from the view point of cave divers exploring the aquafirs of Florida. It was so interesting that teenagers turned off their electronic devices voluntarily. Outdoors we had hands-on-learning activities that taught about water conservation. We had a representative from the county with activities about recycling, composting and water conservation. The evening was very informative and FUN. We raised more money for water projests than we had made in previous years at other festivals

Hopefully we changed the world by changing peoples behaviors around water conservation and sanitation and by providing cleans safe drinking water for others.
