Kelley Chapel UMC continues to grow in membership despite being located in a neighborhood that has declined in population. For the past three months, someone has joined the church; and because of the influx of that, a new members mentoring program was started. Each new member is assigned a mentor from the 21 Lay Speakers in the church. This program provides a solid beginning and works to ensure that the church doesn’t have a revolving door of members leaving.
I was another faith for 30 years and came to Kelley Chapel to work as the church secretary. Many things happened and I joined because of the lessons taught each Sunday, the warm congregation, church activities, the involvement of the young people, which includes the dance, the mimes, children’s church, baby nursery, Sunday school, the choir, bible study, Food Pantry, Clothing Closets, and Vacation Bible School. In fact, my family and I are in the same church after 30 years of being apart.
The church also focuses on the stability of families and promotes good health. The pastor has a vision of beneficial church programs, what is needed and he involves everyone to achieve the objectives. His people skills are outstanding and he makes all feels needed and appreciated. He is quick to say thank you.
