This week was Vacation Bible School. We only have a few children in the church so we advertized VBS outside the church and God brought the children, 50 children to VBS at FUMC Taylor! The church responded with 25 of our church members volunteering to who worked with the children! It was great to see three of our new members particiate in leadership roles. On Monday our storyteller told the story of the Good Samaritin. We were surprised to discovered that only a couple of children in every class had heard the story before. It is very exciting to be involved in ministry that wlll change childen's lives and may change entire families! Praise God! We at FUMC Taylor are sharing the Good News!
Last week 10 of our church members were involved in a communty recreation program targeting lower income families. The program is organized by a Taylor High School employee, John Mashall, whose job is to work with children, youth and families who are in need of additional resorces. John has recruited non-profit organization volunteers to help with the recreation program to provide the refreshments and to mingle with those present to build relationships. The nightly schedule is:the childen and youth play basketball and dodge ball for 1 1/2 hrs.; then, they hear a message from a leader of the non-profit organization that has volunteered for that evening; then, they eat and go back to playing. Pastor Brenda brought a message on Tuesday night to 80 children and youth; on Thursday there were 100 children & youth, almost all of them were African Americans. It was wonderful to reach out to our neighbors. Also, we passed out flyers for our up-coming VBS.
