On July 5th the congregation participated, for the first time, in the annual commuinty-wide garage sale. At the June administrative council meeting the congregation voted to give all of the monies raised to the Rising Star Volunteer Fire Department. With an article placed in the paper announcing the church's participation and 'mission' for the fund raiser members of the community began bringing by items to donate to the cause.
Excitement among the congregation grew as they began preparing the fellowhip hall for the sale. They began calling it their very own 'loaves and fishes' because the room was busting at the seams with clothes, children's toys, electronics, kitchenware, baked goods, exercise equipment and even a lawn mower.
On Sunday, July 6th the congregation waited excitedly during the announcements at the worship serivce; they hoped to have raised at least $700. However, as the members of the church remained faithful with their desire to serve the community with their mission, God provided more than they could have imagined; the church raised $1,179.52. The absolute joy at the accomplishment of this tiny church and it's first time endeavor was overwhelming.
On Sunday, July 13th the RSVFD Chief, Assistant Chief, FD President, a Firefighter and Secretary attended the church worship service where they were presented with a check for the monies raised. The entire congregation came forward after the presentation and joined together, hand-in-hand with the firefighters and prayed.
This congregation has gone from being concerned about the money needed to run the church, to trusting that the Lord will provide, allowing them to open their doors and reach out to the community to both minster and give.
