Backpack for Kids Ministry

In the spring of the last school year, our church began a new ministry in partnership with the Cross Plains Elementary School to help feed needy children each weekend during the school year.  Backpacks are filled with food for the weekend, and they are distributed by the school in a discreet manner.  Since the backpacks with food would be distributed by school personnel, we started slow to insure that we would not overly stress the them.  We began by sponsoring ten (10) students, but the number quickly rose to fifteen (15).

Each year, during Vacation Bible School, we conduct a ministry program, and we have alternated between local missions and international missions.  This year, our mission was to help expand the Backpack for Kids ministry.  Initially, we were hoping to be able to add two additional children.  However, the children embraced the idea of through helping their fellow children and serving Jesus Christ through his command to feed the hungry.  As a result of their generosity (and that of their parents), we will be able to feed at least four (4) more children every weekend throughout the school year.  There is a great deal of need in this area, and we are praying that this ministry will continue to grow.
