This week, the Neighborhood Leadership Council of Meadowbrook's Early Childhood Matters program met together. Early Childhood Matters is a program of the City of Fort Worth that focuses on equipping parents to be their child's first teacher. Parents are given skills to help the literacy of their children and they are taught some basic parenting skills. The Meadowbrook branch reaches mostly Latin@ families. During our meeting we heard several testimonies about how this program was changing the lives of children and families. One 5-year old boy just started Kindgergarten. His teacher wanted to skip him to first grade, but the mother had some reservations. She and the teacher worked out a plan so that that young boy could help tutor his classmates in letters, counting, and reading. Stories like this remind us that the Church can change lives on other days besides Sunday.
