Our congregation has been especially kind-hearted in caring for those suffering from mental illness, especially with those who suffer from depression. Laity frequently visit and will call the parish nurse to do health checks or discuss medical issues with shut-ins. A small but vital fund helps pay for medication and therapy. There is interest within the congregation in more education about the medical and spiritual aspects of mental illness. This last week a few people responded to a quiet invitation (word was passed during Sunday school that the fund was running low) to assist a member with bills related to treatment. The little church collected nearly $400, even while supporting a small capital campaign. This will allow the unidentified member to remain in her home and receive the treatment she needs.
