Holy Spirit calls an audible during Memorial Say weekend service

This past Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, the congregation at Clunette United Methodist Church witnessed something very special that was not originally planned. We like to say that "The Holy Spirit called an audible", to put it in football terms. Our regular guitarist was unable to make service and could not play a special patriotic hymn as planned, so Pastor Mike and the rest of the Prairie Fire Praise Band discussed what "Plan B" might look like. Pastor Mike said he could play "America the Beautiful" on his ukelele while two ladies joined him with harmony. As they practiced it before service, the preschool-aged teacher overheard as she was coming into the church. She loved what she heard and asked Pastor Mike if there was any way the special music number could be performed at a time when the small children could come upstairs and join in after she had the morning lesson to them. So at the last minute it was decided that they would close out the service with the song. At the close of service as the song was performed, the preschool teacher brought the children up, waving little American flags and red, white and blue pinwheels as they made their way down the aisle and to the front of the church. This prompted several teary eyed veterans and family members of veterans to stand up in recognition of the special moment. Afterwards our resident World War II veteran (he is 92) expressed how touched he was, and how very thankful. It was very much a "God thing"!
