Mason Memorial Community Church, a United Methodist Congregation, expresses appreciation to both God and the United Methodist Church for the advantages offered by connectional ministry. The challenge of hunger has affected many individuals this year, and without the support provided through our church connection, Thanksgiving could have been difficult for one family facing food insecurity.
Our congregation identified a family in need this year, but our efforts to serve them became difficult because they spoke only Swahili, a language unfamiliar to our church members. But, by the blessings and grace of God, through our United Methodist Church connection, we engaged a member from Africa who spoke Swahili who helped us overcome those cultural and language barriers that often keep us divided. With their assistance, we were able to provide food assistance to this immigrant family.
We witnessed God’s work as those divisions of race, culture, and language were torn down, and felt the Holy Spirit guiding our collective effort to care for one of God's children. We are truly thankful for our United Methodist Church and the strength of our connection.
