On Saturday, June 22 Andover UMC hosted the 4th annual Bishop's Bicycle Challenge. Kansas and Nebraska Area Bishop Scott Jones rode his bicycle on a 62-mile route to raise funds for United Methodist Open Door's capital fund drive. Riders paid a $25 registration fee and were responsible for raising an additional $100 (minimum) for the Open Door campaign. Open Door is an outreach ministry with a purpose and mission to provide food, clothing and shelter to more than 14,500 people in need each month. One hundred percent of all donations to the ride went to the Open Door's capital campaign fund. The ride started and finished at Andover UMC and a lunch was provided for all riders by the church at the end of their ride. At least 75 riders joined the Bishop for the Bicycle Challenge. Riders commented that the route was perfect and the registration process was organized and smooth. The fundraising total is not known as of yet, but more money was raised than ever before. Open Door is always the big winner in this event!
