This past Sunday, July 28, we had three baptisms and two professions of faith at First United Methodist Church, Mammoth Spring. We give thanks to God for this. Each Sunday we welcome visitors, and we have welcomed some members back to the church who have been away for some time. We are continuing our evangelistic efforts, having formed an Evangelism Committee to spearhead those efforts. We are also in the process of planning more mission and outreach efforts, including the following:
-
"Adopt-A-Teacher" - a ministry which will provide year-long encouragement to teachers in the Mammoth Spring public school system as well as provide clothing for elementary students at the school. Church families will be able to "adopt" a teacher and provide encouraging notes and small gifts for their adopted teacher at the beginning and throughout the school year. This ministry will kick-off with an event for teachers to receive special gifts on the first day of school, August 19.
-
"Serve Day" - a Serve Team will be formed to go out each month into the community to offer assistance in doing odd jobs at people's homes for free, especially for those in the community who are physically unable to do so themselves. This ministry will include special Serve Days around the time of Memorial Day and Veterans Day to give back to retired veterans who have served in the armed forces.
-
After-School Program - to give Mammoth Spring students who need a place to go after school for awhile a safe sanctuary to enjoy themselves and become familiar with the love of God through community and fellowship.
-
Local Food Pantry - a food pantry already exists in Mammoth Spring which the church helps support financially each month, and FUMC is in the process of looking for ways to provide more volunteers to help with the distribution of food each month with the hope of possibly allowing the pantry to be open more often than once per month in order to help more families.
-
UMW and UMM - to renew both charters and begin UMW and UMM groups geared toward mission and outreach in the Mammoth Spring community and the world.
And that is just the beginning. God is most certainly present and working in this wonderful congregation.
