Back to School Gift Cards

First UMC of Sonora has a tradition of helping those in need with school supplies. This year, we purchased $50 gift cards to the local ALCO store for 131 children in PK through 8th grade. A local business donated backpacks for each child. The cards and backpacks were distributed at an outdoor hotdog supper held on the Thursday evening prior to tax-free weekend. Over 2/3's of the children and their families attended the distribution event. We gathered on the church lawn and broke bread together. Conversations around the table were a blessing to all. God was truly present in our congregation and community this day.
