At Shouns Methodist Church in Mountain City, Tennessee, the Spirit of our Lord was indeed moving this pasts Sunday morning. We had a total of eleven members to receive Reaffirmation of their Baptism.
In Tennessee, the Mountain City Circuit is made up of three small churches. They consist of Valley View, Shouns, and Doe Valley. However, being small in numbers does not necessarily mean you are lacking in enthusiasm for the Word of God.
At Shouns church, it seems that for quite a while, due to the lack of someone to teach, there had been no organized Sunday School. Sunday services consisted of only one hour of worship when the circuit preacher arrived. The Sunday School hour was taken up with special prayer time and discussing what church business was at hand. And then the Spirit moved among God's people. Some months ago, the LORD raised up a Sunday School teacher. The class began with three, then four, five and six. At times there were up to eleven in attendance. The text book was God's Holy Word.
Last autumn, it was necessasry that the pastor be away for the Sunday service. When it was announced to the congregation that morning worship service would be canceled the following Sundahy, everyone looked at each other and said, "Well, why can't we have two hours of Sunday School?"-----And that we did.
Perhaps this is something others should take to mind. Two hours of study in God's Word just might be what the "doctor" ordered.
"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."-----Matthew 18:20.
"-----upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."-----Matthew 16:18.
