We are partnering with Hawkins UMC in Vicksburg for VBS. We did so last year via zoom, and this year Hawkins is hosting and we are bringing kids and volunteers. We do our VBS at Christmas time so it's a great way to build up another connectional relationship, and build love between our churches.
We also have a tutoring ministry we are starting up to help at-risk kids catch up or pass summer school. Many of our newest regulars are going to be involved and some who have come back after a long time away (even before the pandemic).
Through simple hospitality, we just found out we have doubled our AA attendance in our two groups (from 19 to around 50 people- the larger group meets almost everyday). We leave them snacks and make sure they have the best space to grow. Some have started attending worship and some are helping us with our food insecurity ministry.
Through the leadership of Rev. Haywood Hannah, we (a white church) are partnering with our black siblings to host race and healing groups via zoom. We have met twice now. We hope to begin having in-person meetings soon, if it works for everyone. Or group is bonding and wants to stay together. Can't wait to see what these new relationships will bear.
