"Thanks"giving tradition at St. Philip's

At Thanksgiving it is the tradition of St. Philip’s to deliver Thanksgiving gift cards to families in the area that have requested help. Roma and Burl, both Service Leaders in our Contemporary Worship Service, were asked to pray with the families and give them the previous week's Sunday Guide. Charmetha’s teenage son was really interested in the youth program after reading about it in the Sunday Guide.

The family came to church the following week and the teenage son attended Pulse Student Ministries that night. He made a special connection with the son of another one of our Service Leaders and the rest is history.

Charmetha told us she had been having some trouble with her son hanging with the wrong crowd and getting in trouble and it was he who chose to come to our church. Roma writes: “Isn’t it exciting to be a part of what God is already doing in the lives of people?”  Incidentally, the first Sunday that they attended Dr. Dale asked for a volunteer and Charmetha jumped right up. Ironically, it was to read the final count on the families that our church assisted with Thanksgiving dinner and after telling the congregation about the 1200 pounds of Turkey St. Phil’s gave out, she told that they were a family that was assisted and how much it meant to her and the children.  Anyway, she was completely awesome and I think this family will be a wonderful addition to our church family.

As told by Roma Fine, with additional comments by Steve.   Roma has not yet given me permission to share this story, but I figure its safe to share with Vital Congregations, I mean, after all whos going to read it there?!
